When we consider the fact that a near-contact assault against an officer (physical attack, impact weapon, edged weapon or firearm) can begin and be completed in approximately a quarter second or less, understanding the human factors involved becomes critical in order to properly train officers to have an effective response to those threats. One of the critical human factors has to do with ambient (or peripheral) vision.
