When officers are confronted with spontaneous threats at close range, the effective response to controlling and surviving these encounters comes back to realistic and research-based training. There are many human factors that trainers simply must understand in order to ensure we are developing and training effective techniques. One of these critical human factors has to do with how foveal (or ‘focal’) vision works.
